The 2008 cPanel Conference is winding down today with fewer sessions and a more relaxed final day of the event. Attendees rocking out on night 2 of the Microsoft sponsored dinner and mixer. The xBox 360 game Rockband provided lots of entertainment for all in attendance with many trying their hand at the drums, bass and guitar. A good time was had by all.

TheWHIR team has been busy at events the last few months and we are now planning on attending both the cPanel Conference 2008 and LTPact 2008 a conference put on by the folks at Layered Technologies this month.

cPanel Conference 2008 is in its 3rd year and promises to be more in depth, including more advanced topics than the previous years. There will be guest speakers in addition to cPanel Developers. Also taking place will be panel discussions with some of cPanel's Developers and Technical Support Specialists.

With the upcoming release of cPanel Server Suite for Windows scheduled for 2008, the conference will have several sessions geared towards the new product and how it will significantly enhance Windows based hosting operations.

Conference registration is once again very reasonable at $60.00 USD per attendee. Attendees will be able to meet vendors and producers of software plug-ins that work with cPanel and service providers that deploy cPanel. As the host of the conference, cPanel will be providing a cocktail reception with a top shelf open bar on the evening of the 11th and a sumptuous dinner for all attendees and exhibitors on the 12th. As I mentioned last week theWHIR team is in attendance at the 3rd Annual Parallels Summit 2008. The event is taking place at the lovely Art Deco Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. The day began promptly at 8am with a bit of a line up at the registration desk but the folks at Parallels were sure to sort that out before long. The attendee list exceeds 700, so I am certain that this event is the largest since its inception.

The red shirt clad Parallels team is in full force because they seem to be everywhere. The Web hosting industry who's who is also in attendance and includes Platinum Sponsor Microsoft as well as representatives from SoftLayer, Comodo, Bobcares, SmarterTools , PlusServer and so many more.

The sessions are well attended and the feedback I have received so far is that they are quite valuable, especially for the folks traveling long distances to network and learn more about the Parallels portfolio of products. The folks at Peer 1 are at it again and as noted earlier this week in theWHIR News they have added a $10,000 contest to make things even more interesting.

Episode 2 of the "Growing Pains" video series is also humorous although not as funny as the first episode I must say. What I would have loved to see is a quick recap of the first episode at the beginning to refresh my memory.

The Web Host Industry Review is now gathering submissions for a special Web hosting directory issue of the WHIR magazine (January 2008 Issue), distributed through 2008 to tens of thousands of hosting customers.

Built around paid-for listings, the issue is designed to cater to Web hosting customers in particular, and will be distributed at trade shows and events throughout the year, including: Search Engine Strategies, Search Marketing Expo, O'Reilly Conferences, PubCon, SMB Nation, eTail 2008, SaaS Summit, AJAX World, Linux World, INTEROP, VMWorld, Domain Fest, Miva Merchant Conference, FOSE Government IT Expo, HostingCon, ISPCON and others.

The directory will include listings divided into categories such as shared hosting, small business hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated servers, reseller hosting, as well as by international categories. Service providers can place listings in multiple categories.

Hosting companies and related service providers can arrange their inclusion in the directory by visiting the directory website.

Listings are extremely affordable, at $49. Enhanced listings are available, as are a range of display ads, including 1/3 page, 1/2 page and a limited number of full- and double-page spreads.

A paid listing model enables us to ensure the legitimacy of the companies involved, and to distribute the directory for free.

I recently stumbled upon a hilarious little video made by the folks at PEER 1. They have produced a short film, viral video, advertisement - whatever you want to call it. They have aptly named the film "Daddy's Little Girl" and it apparently is the first episode in the "Growing Pains" series. Check it out below.

I am excited to see a Web hosting provider get creative with video and use it to their advantage, if even to amuse and hopefully assist in brand recall. We are so used to the traditional data center video tour, this is a good break from the ordinary.

A job well done folks. I hope the video goes far and you get what you wanted out of it because it certainly does not look like a cheap production. I look forward to the others.
