What is the true impact of malware on our customers?

Hey folks…  We’ve been busy with our little toys here working through customer problems, and in general – doing our best to protect our customers from nefarious folks that love SQL injection attack vectors, wide open firewall ports and other lovely artifacts of security.

A customer yesterday asked me what the big deal is about malware.  Like, if you have to ‘traffic’ malware accidently, you simple disable it (strip out the code), and move on right?

Well, no.  In fact, the WORST artifact of the malware infection isn’t the infection itself, or the fact that you’ve done your part to infect 100′s or 1000′s of your customers personal computers.

No, the worst part is that if anyone reported you (browser toolbar, email notice, etc.) means that our friends at google will probably drop you from the indexes (yes, thats ALL pages from your site), and any of the browser (FF, Opera, etc.) personal sandboxes have your name, anyone on those browsers will be blatantly warned about your site…for weeks and months to come, even IF you are now clean.

Obviously, your mother was right.  Prevention is the best medication.  I’ve had customers had to wait weeks or more to get removed from this malware indexes..all the while their customers were scared away from all of the warnings!

Yes, best medicine is to protect up front, invest in regular scanning and be quick to respond if anything comes up.

In light of the current influx of malware infections out there, we’re introduced a coupon program which gets you varrying levels of scanning, and default malware detection services.  At minimum, its best to be scanned at least monthly.
