Visitors Stay 2.7 Times Longer on GoDaddy’s Website

I just came across this review on Read/Write Web on Compete.com’s traffic comparison service. Compete was founded in 2000 by Bill Gross, the guy behind Overture.com. It gets its stats from users who install its Alexa-style toolbar, site owners, opt-in panels and anonymous clickstreams. According to Compete…

1. Unique US Visitors in September, 2006:

451,668 for Web.com (1.1% increase compared with August)

870,611 for GoDaddy (5% decline compared with August)

2. Traffic Rank

3669 for Web.com (-2 compared with August)

1949 for GoDaddy (-140 compared with August)

3. Pageviews per Visit

2.9 for Web.com (8.4% decline compared with August)

7.4 for GoDaddy (9.8% increase compared with August)

4. Average Stay

2.25 minutes for Web.com (3.8% decline compared with August)

6.08 minutes for GoDaddy (2.3% increase compared with August)

The amount of traffic reported by Compete seems much higher than what I saw on Quantcast, another emerging Alexa competitor. But both Compete and Quantcast show that GoDaddy does a much better job of engaging customers and prospects. GoDaddy not only gets more repeat visitors, but convinces them to spend more time on the site during each visit.
