It’s been a few days now since our WHIR networking event at C Lounge in Toronto, on May 20th (the delay in this posting, I’m going to attribute to the fact that we were out of the office on Friday, and this weekend being the Victoria Day long weekend in Canada.
Anyhow, back to the important business. Last week’s event was, by all the means we’re able to measure it, a success. We had a great turnout, and everyone that I talked to said they had a very good time.
Toronto was an important venue for us because it’s our home town. And as I mentioned in my previous post on the subject, this networking event sort of doubled as a 10th anniversary party for us, a milestone we passed a little earlier in the month of May.
It’s great to see the local Toronto community developing around the hosting market, though, and it’s nice to feel like we’re playing a part in that, both with the networking events, and with the broader workings of the WHIR network.
The great turnout on Thursday was certainly thanks to our readers, who, you know, turned out. And the event itself was possible because of the generous support of our sponsors, which included OpenSRS, Attracta, SevenL Networks, Afilias, Ravand Cybertech and R1Soft.
And speaking of our sponsors, of course one of the most exciting parts of the evening was the prize giveaway, where each of our sponsors gave away a prize to one of our attendees.
Here’s a quick look at, and congratulations to, our winners:
Alan Paes of Integrated Networking Solutions won an OpenSRS prize pack from OpenSRS.
Web developer Hamid Mousavian won a round of golf at St. Georges, and Carey Toane won a prize pack, both from Seven L Networks.
Ezra Silverton from 9th Sphere won a bottle of wine from Attracta.
Kyle Leppert of Leppert won a bottle of Grey Goose vodka from Ravand Cybertech.
Mitch Green of Clairvest won a Flip video camera from R1Soft.
And Mike Arnoldi of Promotivate won an iPad from Afilias.
So one final thanks to our excellent sponsors for making it possible, and to everyone who came out to make it a good night. We’ll have a set of photos from the party up tomorrow, and a video from the event on WHIR tv in the next week or two.
We’ll be in Boston on June 17th, so if you can make it out for that one, head over to the events page to register right now.
