Following up on my previous post on building community – or else, Amazon Web Services is doing just that. Between Jan 15 and Feb 27 next year, Amazon evangelists will be pitching S3 and EC2 in…
Vancouver (Hello, Peer 1 and Superb Internet!)
Los Angeles (Hey MediaTemple and DreamHost!)
Phoenix (Anyone from GoDaddy there?)
New York City (Intermedia.net and DedicatedNow?), and
Dallas (know any hosting companies there?)
I wanted to mention Dallas in particular because according to the Texas Startup Blog: “I know of more than ten startups in Dallas that are using Amazon’s services as a way to start… This is big.” I’m disappointed with my friends at The Planet, LayeredTech and SoftLayer. Dallas is their home base, not Amazon’s!
If it’s worth Amazon’s while to fly into town for a presentation to your local .Net, Java or Ruby user groups, shouldn’t you make time to become active members of these forums? For all you know, there could be *your* customers in their audience, bonding over details on the latest and greatest S3-powered apps… You’ve got to host globally, build communities locally.
