New on WHIR TV – Peer 1′s Toronto Data Center, Part 7

Almost a year after we first introduced this series in July of 2009, hosting provider Peer 1 has completed its new Toronto data center, and we conclude our series with a seventh installment, detailing some of the features of the now-operational facility, and looking back at some of the construction process.

The WHIR covered the official opening of what is now Peer 1’s flagship facility in May of 2010. The new facility is the company’s first to bring together the company’s managed hosting, colocation and dedicated hosting solutions under one roof.

The most recent video in the series takes us through the completed facility’s power, backup and cooling facilities, as well as inside the completed data center “pods,” right up to the racks and cages, as well as the staging area for yet-to-be-racked servers.

Of course, we really appreciate Peer 1 allowing us inside their facility, which enabled us to put together a very in-depth and quite interesting series of videos on the construction process behind a major data center facility.

If you’d like to experience the series in its entirety, each of the previous six parts is archived.

Part one explores the exterior of the building that will become a data center.

Part two takes us inside the building and discusses some of the plans for how the facility will take shape.

Part three features an appearance by Ryan Murphey, vice president of facilities and operations.

The fourth installment shows construction well underway.

In part five, the construction of the building’s shell nears completion.

And in part six, the company is working on setting up the data center’s interior – building out raised floor and server cabinets – in preparation for the facility’s launch.

We hope you’ve enjoyed following along with the construction of this facility as  much as we’ve enjoyed bringing it to you.
