On board is a Bell Jet Ranger III helicopter, two tenders a 19-foot Cigarette a 23-foot Donzi – and two BMW motorcycles. They don’t have it in the Brochure but I saw a small yellow submarine amidships in a cubbyhole about 15 feet above the water line.
I am talking about the Forbes Yacht, The Highlander. I saw it in Milwaukee. No one waved me to come on board this 151 ft creature as I sailed as deftly as my nautical skill would allow along the towering hull. 151 ft is large, when I first met her I would have easily thought 200 ft’ +. In reading it does sound James Bond (1980’s) in nature, in reality it is close.
Look through the Forbes brochure you will learn a lot.
So why am I going down this road? 1st. I am writing something else for you that brought me on the Forbes doorstep; 2nd We need to do a quick discussion on taxes, or should I say your toys and taxes; 3rd I am going to invite you to help me save taxes, and, 4th, the Yacht stuff is more fun.
#1 – I am thinking globally and will have something interesting in a few days.
#2 – In order to “write off’ things like boats, helicopters, ninja cycles and a classic wine collection you have to technically have a legitimate business reason. It could be travel, promotion or getting new business; you know the drift, read the brochure.
Every business from a new hosting company operating as a reseller to 1&1’s parent company, United Internet, which by the way sponsored German’s first entry in the America’s Cup, should to be involved in philanthropic activities and marketing the goodwill of the company.
In the near future anyone making over $100,000 is going to be further pummeled in taxes. If you are doing relatively well, own your own company and make say $300,000 a year I would not be surprised that your incremental tax bite from all sources is going to go up anither 15% — yes another $45,000 a year. That would take your current tax bite of $76,800 to $121,800. This represents a 58% increase in your tax contribution. Did I really call that a contribution?
You currently plow your money into the economy, now someone else will claim they are doing it for you.
If you are like many business people certain items just don’t get accounted for. That is you could be effectively using those assets in a slightly different way and making sure you are accounting for them correctly to obtain the best use of those funds.
Oh you need a case in point.
#3 – The Gates Of Dawn is a classic 42’ cutter, looks like a Skipjack or pirate ship if you will, is going through an extensive overhaul in Matlacha, Florida. In order to do my part for the economy. Once the overhull is complete, I would like to invite you (Qualified buyers or sellers of Internet firms – yes mergers and acquisitions spoken here) on a short voyage into the crystal blue/aqua waters of the Gulf of Mexico and near by Islands. Obviously I am going to have to limit, restrict etc. We will (I mean this) discuss business. Let me know.
