Strategic planning is a peculiar task – yes to some it is a task. And, as a task it is limiting – hours around the coffee table, too much caffeine tempered by tall cold bottles. But I am getting ahead of myself. It is about recognizing opportunity.
Someone at Turnkey Internet recognized opportunity. Turnkey just purchased KCnet, a Kansas City ISP. Kansas City just happens to be where Google is building its 1 gigabit fiber-optic network to serve some 500,000 people.
KCnet has been transitioning from a DSL provider to providing some managed hosting, colocation and general hosting sector services. Over the years I have had the impression the firm has good local reputation and name recognition.
The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce website states, “the (Google) investment ultimately could put the region on the map with tech meccas such as California’s Silicon Valley and North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park.”
That spells opportunity.
Sometimes strategy and opportunity is as easy as reading the news. Acting on it is another matter.
