WHIR editor in chief Liam Eagle recently had the opportunity to sit down with Elliot Noss, president and CEO of Tucows, and shoot an interview segment for WHIR TV.
In a very interesting conversation that lasted long enough that it will have to be divided into several parts, Noss discussed a wide range of issues relating to the wholesale services Tucows provides to its service provider partners.
In this, the first segment, he discusses the 10th anniversary of OpenSRS, the company’s wholesale domain registration brand, and some of the philosophy associated with the decision to work through channel partners to the exclusion of direct sales, particularly in the domain business.
He also discusses some of the changes that have taken place in the in the domain market since the company began selling domains a decade ago.
Finally, he discusses some of the potential was in which the addition of a huge collection of new generic TLDs might affect the domain business, both in the short term and in the long term.
As mentioned at the beginning of the post, this is the first part of a fairly long (and extremely interesting) interview with Noss, so keep an eye on WHIR TV for the rest of this interview, which should be posted soon.
Of course, we’ll add links to the later part at the bottom of this post, as they go live.
