Although the WHIRtv team has been fortunate enough to travel to numerous locations across the US and Europe to cover web hosting events and interview company execs and thought-leaders in our industry, these WHIRtv Video Features have given us a whole other opportunity to not only explore some of the interesting cities web hosting providers call home, but really get an up-close and personal rapport with the people who run these businesses. In fact, you could even say that for a few days, we become a part of “the team.”
This is how our experience was with FORTRUST, located in Denver, Colorado aka The Mile-High City.
FORTRUST welcomes the WHIR; a snapshot of our customized welcome sign in the reception area.
As soon as we walked into the door, we were greeted with a rather considerate “Welcome” sign and from there on out for the next two days we were officially adopted as honorary FORTRUST members. We were escorted through every nook and cranny of the facility (well, as unrestricted as it can get in a highly secure facility), we got to shoot the breeze with FORTRUST employees at every moment we weren’t interviewing or filming and were even fortunate enough to experience the office’s weekly Friday BBQ. Needless to say, the FORTRUST crew was very accommodating and rather entertaining to work with, on all levels. Just thinking about some of the personalities we ended up speaking to on the team makes me chuckle in my seat
Aside from work that had to be done, we also had the opportunity to check out some of the culture in Denver like the shops and restaurants on 16th Street Mall, the wonderfully rich jazz scene, an Oktoberfest festival and of course, the mountains (oh, the glorious mountains). We actually got to catch a live performance of Sigur Ros (I could go on and on about this, but if you don’t know who they are, just check out their wiki here) at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and I’ll say this – it’s possibly one of the most surreal concert experiences you’ll ever come across.
As for the FORTRUST facility itself – which is really why we were in Denver in the first place and what these five videos strive to highlight – it was definitely one of the largest data centers we have seen. The company recently invested millions of dollars into this 224,000 square foot facility and offers “highly-available” colocation space as well as a”sophisticated” suite of managed services, which you’ll hear more about in the videos. We also shot a detailed tour of the immense facility, guided by Rob McClary, the general manager of FORTRUST, which I must admit, we’re quite enthused about.
So without further ado, we’re pleased to present the FORTRUST video features.
