Customers Need Technology Updates

Many of you know that Web hosting customers are a diverse and exciting customer group. Their company profiles and personalities are extremely varied.

There are one-person shops, distributed groups of freelancers, boutique and large interactive marketing agencies, and more. Many hosting companies serve all of these customer types.

This week I spoke to a Web hosting customer who runs a small company with a small number of employees working on a diverse group of clients. is run by Robert Ullery. Robert has been developing Web sites since he was in college and today has a reputation for building great looking Web sites that his clients derive great value from.

South Bend Indiana Web Development firm BOBBr Web Development

We noticed that Robert has several Microsoft SQL 2005 databases and that his sites are programmed in ASP.NET. Robert said that he likes programming in ASP.NET and uses VisualStudio 2005 for his development environment. Robert also keeps up with the latest technologies – he was testing and learning about AJAX even during the Atlas pre-release period.

Many of his skills, tools and techniques are self-taught. Robert watches videos on MSDN, reads a lot of blogs and tries to de-construct how Web sites, applications and user interfaces are created. He feels that it is important to keep learning and moving ahead in order to give his clients the best possible service.

When you think about it, many Web hosting customers are courageous people with a lot of drive. They have to keep clients happy, look for new clients, develop new Web sites and applications, and test new software and tools, all while keeping up with new technology and design aesthetics. WOW!

While reliable Web hosting is the foundation of the services that companies like Robert’s need, we must also, as Web hosts, be sure to keep up with new technologies, software and tools so we can offer these customers the things they spend so much time studying and learning about. This, along with other services like ModernBill and Google AdWords, which help Web developers bill their clients or market themselves and their customers, are a big part of what helps to make these design and development firms successful. And if our customers’ are successful, then we have reason to be proud of our own services.
