Cloud services to dominate APAC small business IT

Reference | by Joshua Beil

The New York Times recently published an article about the rapid adoption of Cloud computing services in APAC.  The article cites that while security and regulatory concerns are present, that cloud computing is estimated to grow 40% per year in APAC and particularly amongst small businesses who are more readily willing to adopt Cloud computing than their larger counterparts.

This article is quite timely as we recently hosted the Parallels APAC Summit 2010 in Singapore with over 280 of the top hosters and Coud services providers representing the APAC region. We witnessed similar sentiments at the Parallels APAC Summit with our own spot poll of this audience.

Key takeaways include:

  • Over eight in ten delegates (84%) expect to see widespread adoption of Cloud computing services amongst small businesses in Asia in the next three years.
  • Almost three quarters of those surveyed (68%) agreed that Cloud computing will be an influential factor in driving efficiency and profitability amongst small businesses in Asia in the next 12 months.
  • 69% agreed that scalable flexibility is the biggest advantage that Cloud computing brings to the world of small business IT, while 60% cite cost reduction as a key factor in the uptake of Cloud computing services.
