Do you remember what you were doing 10 years ago today?
A quick look into the WHIR archives shows that The Planet (remember them?) acquired additional data center space in Dallas, a man was arrested following a forged phishing email targeting eBay customers, and Ardence won CRN’s Best in Show Award at IBM PartnerWorld 2006. Elsewhere, Amazon Web Services was launching its first service, Amazon S3, to general availability. It seems hard to believe that anyone would have guessed at that point what kind of impact AWS’ launch would make in the hosting and cloud services space.
Fast forward to today and AWS boasts some impressive numbers: it has more than a million active customers from 190 countries, the company has slashed its prices 51 times (as of January 2016), and its services and feature-list just keeps growing.
Our sister site Talkin’ Cloud has a photo gallery of 10 fast facts you should know about AWS as it continues on its mission for cloud dominance. Find out more about its growth in the cloud space, including some surprising (and not so surprising numbers), and what the company’s fastest-growing service is. Any guesses?
