A Follow-Up Post on That Microsoft IE Patch (It is Available)

Yesterday we ran a story on the advance notice Microsoft had put out about its plans to launch a patch for the serious IE flaw that was identified in the last week.

I got an email at about 30 minutes ago saying the company had released the patch today, as scheduled:

"Today, Microsoft released security update MS08-078 which will address a new vulnerability allowing remote code execution in all affected versions of Internet Explorer products. Microsoft encourages all IE customers to test and deploy this update as soon as possible."

There's not too much to report here that doesn't fall under the "already covered" umbrella. Basically, Microsoft did, indeed, patch the IE flaw.

Here's the Microsoft bulletin with all the information.

The company is also hosting two webcasts to provide information about the patch. One of them is today at 1:00 p.m. Pacific. I went partway through the signup to find out a bit more about the content, and by the sounds of it, the session will be mostly question-and-answer.

So if you have questions, you might want to tune in and submit them, either today or tomorrow (at 11:00 a.m. Pacific).

I'm going to go install this patch now. Everything I've read has me particularly frightened of this flaw.
