Domain name title insurance
Another blogger has been musing on the subject of Domain Name Title Insurance. This is one of those "I wish I'd come up with this first" ideas. However, it seems like a good add on for those hosts who sell domain names. Imagine the traffic that you'd drive to your site if you could tell purchasers of domain names that for $5 extra per year, or whenever, you would guarantee that they wouldn't be hit with a domain name dispute. Hosts who sell domain names are in an enviable position to create and market a service like this since most already have technology in place to do who-is and other domain name database searches. It seems that all that remains to be worked out are how you would insure against trademark infringement, pricing, and contractual issues. Given that the price of defending a domain name dispute matter typically starts at $3,000, the peace of mind such a service would give to SME business owners might be an easy sell.
