Utilizing Affiliate Programs to Increase Revenues

Reference | in ,, | by theWHIR.com

The advent of Internet advertising and marketing has changed the way we manage and track user profile and demographic information forever. This is not news, but it does go a long way to explaining the proliferation of affiliate programs that are encompassing the Internet everyday. Likening the concept of an affiliate program to an affinity service, the affiliate program gives the ability for a retailer (of any type) to allow for disparate distribution of their services to other websites.

n

More complex than a banner (but, that is how it is enabled sometimes), the link point into the Merchants website usually contains contact or reference details during the user transfer. Organizations have had great success utilizing affiliate programs to increase revenues on both sides of the equation. Not only is the end merchant receiving more customers, but the ‘referring’ website is usually taking a cut of the transaction volume that they refer.

n

The model is simple, and very quick to implement. In most cases, you simply visit the site of a merchant that has like or supplementary product to yours, and sign up for their program. You usually receive an automated code snippet that can be inserted into your website, and voila, you are now a referral merchant! When selecting a merchant partner, it important to research your target selections closely. In the domain name registration business for instance, many different providers have a large varying degree of options available.

n

For instance, some domain registrars focus on the price point exclusively, and expect to augment their revenue equation by selling supplementary services(like web hosting, forwarding, spam lists, etc.) Additionally, other options range all the way up to and including a completely private labeled registration service that has only your brand throughout the whole ordering process. Your needs in this area will have to be analyzed, and expect to pay more (or receive less commissions) from service providers that agree not to market to your customers.

n

Entering into an affiliate co marketing agreement is a great way to both boost revenues, and to provide complementary services to your customer base. Many industries have played this model out many times and generally have had good success due to the fact that the partnership setup and provisioning is automated and managed electronically. Indeed, major providers such as Amazon and others have shown that this model allows everyone to get a slice of the marketplace.
