I know my site needs updating, but a student built it, and he moved. I have no idea where the files are or how to log in to my domain registrar and Web host. Registrar? Web hosting company? Don’t know my Web designer handles all that. I’m not happy with my Web designer, but they control everything and have all the files. Is it okay to ask them for access? And what if they won’t give it to me? I hear some variation of those three scenarios every week. Through ignorance, bad luck or questionable Web design practices, a business owner finds that ownership of a Web site or access to Web design files becomes a problem. By Diana Ratliff
