Application Hosting Not For Everyone

Resellers should take a hard, honest look at their businesses before jumping headfirst into the application hosting market, according to Traver Gruen-Kennedy, chairman of the recently-formed Application Service Provider (ASP) Industry Consortium.n

“Don’t fool yourself,” he told VARBusiness during a consortium meeting here at PC Expo. “It’s a different business.”

To succeed in the ASP market VARs must nurture their customer relationships even more, because the hosting business rests squarely on services, Gruen-Kennedy says. But they also need to train and retain a staff that is dedicated to meticulously maintaining the hosted applications that customers rely on throughout the business day.
